Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Dr. Iswar Chandra Naik will represent India at the United States’ International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), starting from April 9, 2018.
Dr. Iswar Chandra Naik hails from Kashipur block in Rayagada district. He completed his PhD in Sociology from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi in 2010. He is currently working as Associate Dean of KISS University in Bhubaneswar. He was elected as the Student Union President of DAV College, Koraput in the academic session of 1999-2000. He is also the Secretary of Dalit Cell of the ruling BJD.
The IVLP is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is one of the U.S. government’s most prestigious professional exchange programs for foreign opinion leaders. Many key members of the Indian civil society and academics have participated in this program in the past have visited the United States under the auspices of this program, including 300 current and former heads of government.
The project entitled ” Accountability and Transparency in State and Local Governments”. It will be explore the United States’ commitment to transparency, ethics, and accountability at all levels of its government. It will also examine the methods employed by the public sector to prevent corruption, encourage ethical leadership and transparency, and ensure accountability and responsibility to the public. It will be explore the critical role that NGOs, advocacy groups, and the media play as “watchdogs” as well as how social media is increasingly used to monitor governance. Participants will also look at “whistleblower” legislation and protections as well as the impact of the Freedom of Information Act.
