Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday alleged that the local police have destroyed suicide note of the Kunduli gangrape victim, who committed suicide recently, and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Besides, he demanded that the Chief Minister resign from the post taking moral responsibility of failing to provide justice to the minor Dalit girl.
“The State Government is fully responsible for the suicide of Kunduli gangrape victim. The local police have destroyed the suicide note written by the girl. Had it (suicide note) been safe now, it would have made the way for giving justice to her family easy,” said Pradhan at a Press conference here.
Stating that the judicial probe announced by the State Government can’t be trusted, he said, “As the judiciary probes ordered by this Government in many earlier cases like Kalinganagar firing, chit fund scam and Swami Laxmanananda killin have not yielded any result, the Kunduli incident should be probed by the CBI.”
On the other hand, the BJD refuted the Union Minister’s charges, saying they were all baseless and intended at keeping the issue alive for the Bijepur by-poll. The Minister’s attempts are meaningless, he said
He said all steps, be it medical tests or probe order, were taken promptly on behalf of the Government. “Medical tests on the victim were conducted twice and Crime Branch probe ordered soon. As different opinions were created, the Chief Minister ordered for a judiciary probe. The investigation limit of the working judge has also been enhanced after receipt of forensic reports.”
In a reaction to Pradhan’s allegation that the State Government has stated that jawans of Central forces are not involved in the gangrape, Deb said, “No such letter has been given to anyone, or any clean chit given to the Central forces. Rather the statement indicates that Pradhan and his party BJP are backtracking as the incident site comes under operational areas of BSF and Cobra forces. They (Pradhan and BJP) should make it clear if they have no trust on working judges when each aspect of the incident has been brought under the judiciary probe,” said Deb.
He too slammed Pradhan for linking Anjana Mishra case with Kunduli incident. “No political leader or Government employee is involved in the Kunduli incident,” said he.
He said the CBI’s probes into different cases in Odisha in the past have failed to yield any result.
