Death toll due to Cyclone ‘Fani’ increased to 37 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Death toll due to Cyclone ‘Fani’ increased to 37 in the State on Tuesday, said an official release on Tuesday.

While 21 reportedly in Puri district, where the devastating cyclone made landfall on May 3, five people were killed in Cuttack and four in Mayurbhanj. Besides, four died in Jajpur and three in Kendrapada, said the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office.

Meanwhile, relief and restoration work is going on in full swing in the affected areas. However, the Government is yet to restore electricity and telecommunication in Bhubaneswar and Puri even after four days of the cyclone hitting the coast.

As many as 1,40,60,602 people under 16,074 villages in 155 blocks and 51 urban local bodies spread over 14 districts have been affected in the cyclonic storm. The affected districts are Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Dehankanal, Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Bhadrak and Angul, the SRC report had informed on Monday.
