CII steps down as partner for Make in Odisha 2018 summit, BJD alleges conspiracy

Bhubanswar: Industrial body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) steps down as partner for Make in Odisha 2018 summit. Ruling BJD alleges conspiracy. On April 4 informed the Industries Department regarding its inability to partner for the Conclave in view of prior engagements during the proposed dates of the Conclave.

The State Government is organising the biennial showpiece conclave for investments from November 11-15.

The Government of Odisha successfully organized Make in Odisha Conclave 2016 during November 30- December 02, 2016 in partnership with the CII. A total of 124 investment intents worth over INR 3.64 lakh crore were received during the investor meets leading upto the Conclave in 2016. Today, more than 60% of these proposals are at various stages of approval/implementation.

BJD Spokesperson Pratap Deb blames CII Eastern zone Chairman Jagi Mangat Panda for CII’s withdrawal from Make in Odisha Conclave in Odisha at a presser in Bhubaneswar; says it could be her or some other “influential individual” using pressure tactics on the CII (Odisha chapter). CII Eastern zone Chairperson Jagi Mangat Panda appeals BJD to not drag her into politics; says will extend support to Make In Odisha to make it successful; BJD may contact CII state or national office to clarify reasons.

“The decision of CII is a betrayal to the youths of the State and the decision has been taken after Jagi Mangat Panda became the chairperson of CII Eastern Region,” said Sasmit Patra, BJD spokesperson.

“Everything between the State Government and CII was good till February. But the U-turn came only after Jagi Mangat Panda took over as the Eastern Region chairperson. She had a major role to play in the decision by the CII,” Patra claimed.
