Bhubaneswar: The department of social security and empowerment of people with disability (SSEPD) organised the multiple events for celebrations for the commencement of the World Disabilty day on 1st of December.
On second of December the day began with the inauguration of Ability Marathon at Janata Maidan. The star attraction of the show was the noted celebrity and marathon runner Milind Soman.
The marathon was flagged off by the Minister Prafulla Kumar Sammal SSEPD department and Milind Soman. The Principal Secretary Mr Niten Chandra, SCPD commissioner Mrs Minati Bahara, Director Ms Mansi Nimbhal were present for the entire Event. More than 5000 participants joined the marathon event.
There were three categories with respect to distance 10km,5km and 1km. The enthusiasm of citizens of Bhubaneswar was clearly palpable , even cold morning couldn’t deter their spirit for the cause. The field was filled with youth of Bhubaneswar , people from all categories including transgenders, senior citizens and persons with disabilities participated in large numbers.
Besides professional athletes, college and school students were also participating in the event. 1st Prize was Rs 25000 for each 7 categories. Among people with disability there were sub categories like Wheelchair, Tricycle,Cruches, Artificial limbs, Visually Imapired, Hearing Impaired, Intellectually Disable etc. Each having prize money of Rs25000, Rs15000,Rs 10,000 for 1st , 2nd and 3rd Position respectively.
Prize distribution will be done on the International Day of Persons With disability, at adivasi exhibition ground by honourable CM on 3rd Dec 2017. Excellent arrangements were made by the organisers including refreshments, medical support, drinking water etc.
