Bhubaneswar: Odisha Library Academy is the brain child of a group of young dedicated, determined and dynamic Library & Information Science Professionals of Odisha which was launched 5 years back on 9th August 2015 (Kranti Divas) at RMRC, Bhubaneswar. The Academy is a nonprofit making professional organization with the main objective to rejuvenate the Library Movement in the State.
Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, (National Professor of Library Science) was considered as the Father of Library Science in India had immense contributions to the field and worldwide influence. August 12th is being celebrated as National Librarian’s Day in India, in remembrance to him for his lifelong dedication for the upliftment of librarian profession and spearheading the library development in India.
The 4th Annual day of Odisha Library Academy along with “Librarian’s Day Celebration” has been observed on 11th August 2019 (Sunday) at Regional College of Management, Bhubaneswar in Joint Collaboration of Odisha Library Academy 9OLA), Informatics Publishing Ltd., Bangalore & Regional College of Management, Bhubaneswar.
Prof. Prabir Pal, Chairman, RCM, Bhubaneswar has joined as the Chief Guest and briefed the significance of Libraries and Librarians in the Education with lively examples. He also emphasized that a library is not the only a mere collection of books but is a way to transform life and society he suggested to falicitate awards in state to promote library professionalism . Dr. K. Veeranjaneyulu, Professor & University Librarian, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, joined as Guest of Honour. He appreciated the activities OLA and congratulated for celebrating the Librarian’s day and holding a seminar. Dr. R. K. Mahapatra, Univerisity Librarian, OUAT gave the Keynote address on the theme of the Seminar and explained why Digital Library is the need of the hour in the Academic System. Dr. Banamber Sahoo (RMRC, Bhubaneswar), the President of Odisha Library Academy presided the meeting and the Organising Secretary, Mr. Barada Kanta Mohanty, Librarian of RCM, Bhubaneswar, gave the welcome address. The inauguration session ended with vote of thanks by the Secretary, Dr. Basudev Mohanty of IOP, Bhubaneswar. The speakers, intellectuals, and invitees who participated in the seminar put forth their valuable views on the boundless role of Library and Information Science. The three technical sessions were presided by the HODs of two Universities namely, Prof. P. Jena (Utkal), , Prof. J. Sahoo (Khallikote) with the Seminar Director Dr. D. B. Ramesh (SOA). In the closing ceremony, the following eminent guests were present i.e Prof. Priti Ranjan Majhi, Principal, RCM and Prof. P. Padhi, Retd. Prof., DLIS, Utkal University, and President, OLA, Dr. Banambar Sahoo; Vice-President, OLA, Dr. Kamal L. Jena; Mr. Barada Kanta Mohanty, Organising Secretary and Secretary, OLA, Dr. Basudev Mohanty, Secretary, OLA. Shree Sisir Mohanty ,Public Relation OLA .Abinash Dash Treasure OLA. More than 250 Faculties, librarians from different institutes, traineee & students of library and information Science from Odisha attended this seminar.
