BSF martyrs supreme sacrifice will never escape from Nation’s memory: IG A.K.Singh

Report by Kishor Dash; Bhubaneswar: The Boarder Security Forces have played a pivotal role in safeguarding integrity and soveringty of the Nation ever since its inception in 1965 after the amalgamation of state armed police forces, said BSF Inspector General AK. Singh while speaking at the flagging ceremony of the half marathon race at the Kalinga stadium here today. The role of elite forces are laudable when it comes to its fight against militancy , Singh said while adding the cases of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir where militancy has been eliminated and insurgency has been wiped out from north-east.

While teaming the BSF as the world’s largest border guarding force with the deployment of 2.5 lakhs personnels to guard 6,500 km long porous border, the BSF IG said that it the BSF which has successfully eliminated the foreign mercenaries like Amanullan Saha peer, Abu Umar and Ghazi Baba from Indian soil thereby adding a new chapter to the achievements made by the elite forces.

Organised in the memory of about 2000 BSF brave hearts who have laid down their lives across the country while serving the motherland , the half marathon race was flagged off by Union Minister for Oil & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan in presence of Odisha Director General of Police RP. Sharma, CRPF IG KK. Sharma and officials from IOC, NALCO and SOA university.The event was sponsored by PSUs, GAIL, NALCO, MCL, KIIT, ITC, JK Paper, SUM & AMRI hospital. The half marathon kick started from Kalinga stadium and covered a distance of 21 km passed through Jayadev Vihar chowk, NH-16 and Kalinga Vihar Chowk.

The various winners of half marathon race under different categories like 10 and 21 km ( men & women ) and 5 km for women & children’s were given cash awards by the Orissa Government Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Chandra Sarathi Behera at the valedictory ceremony . Organised by thr Bhubaneswar based BSF DIG (Intelligence) , PRO and Chief Coordinator of the Orissa half marathon race Jaya Chandra Nayak the event was attended by a galaxy of media personnels and people from all walks life.
