Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The state SC&ST convener and planning board vice chairman Bishnu Das slated the National SC&ST commission chairman Dr Yogendra Paswan’s remark that Odisha’s BJD government is anti-Dalit, Bishnu speaking to media persons at Circuit house here on Wednesday revealed that Dr Paswan’s has given an irresponsible views on Odisha’s Dalit people lacking details and his opinion is political motivated, Bishnu said.
Revealing Odisha government manifolds pro SC&ST developmental measures Bishnu clarified that in last four years state government has increased 104 percent budgetary allocation for SC&ST development besides union government has enhanced only 7 percent.
Besides as many as 6375 hostels have been established for SC&ST students in state serving homes for 5.50 lakh students but union government has built 495 hostels for Dalit students. Students living in these state sponsored hostels are giving free feeding, health care, living apparatuses free of cost, Bishnu informed.
Moreover Odisha government has been giving Rs 750 to boys and Rs800 to girls as SC&ST scholarship students reading in schools and colleges across the state, besides education ratio among Dalit people in Odisha bears 69.02 in 1991 census , SC&ST women literacy rate in Odisha divulges that 58.76 against National ratio 58.46.
In higher education sector Odisha’s SC&ST students gross enrolment ratio 12.09 against all India figure 12.02.
It is a shocking fact that union government sponsored SC&ST students scholarship is insufficient meeting its demands meanwhile Rs 226 crore and 40 Lakh goes pending as central assistance towards Dalit scholarship, so Bishnu demanded enhancing SC&ST union government development funds and immediate release of pendant scholarship money for Odisha.
