Bhubaneswar, November 30: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today successfully organised an awareness meeting for Shanti Nagar Awas Yojana, which would come out with affordable houses for the slum residents of the locality under the Bhubaneswar Town Centre District (BTCD) with 2,200 houses.
Besides affordable houses, the families coming under the scheme at Shanti Nagar will have neighbourhood shopping area, community centre, public library, livelihood development centre, Anganwadi and there will be facilities for internal roads, sewerage treatment plan and adequate drainage system.
Shanti Nagar Awas Yojana will be part of the Housing For All Policy-2015 of the Odisha Government, which, aims at providing affordable housing for all the urban poor and to make the cities free from slums.
Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, MP Prasanna Patsani, MLA Bhubaneswar (Central) Bijay Mohanty, MLA Bhubaneswar (North) Priyadarshi MIshra, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar addressed the gathering, in which more than 1,000 slum dwellers participated.
On this occasion BMC also screened a short documentary on how the residents of Mahisakhala Basti have received beautiful houses meant for the economically weaker sections. The residents of Shanti Nagar also enjoyed the short documentary. BTCD is the area which is also called the smart district, where the infrastructure planning for the Smart District has already started.
