Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The social activist Kisan Baburao Hazare popularly known as Anna Hazare who attended the late Odisha chief minister renowned freedom fighter Naba Krushna Choudhury birth anniversary and addressed a farmers gathering organized by Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan [NKS] on Thursday urged that country needs second freedom movement for gaining farmers liberty and rights.
The Gandhian also offered his support to NKS supported farmers and requested the agricultural dependents to resort to peaceful ways of protest against both union and state governments neglecting farmers since years.
The post-independence scenario of country lacks establishing Lok Tantra in India, Gandhiji had fought for obtaining Lok Tantra in country, for obtaining independence and Lok Tantra father of Nation had called ‘do or die’ . his appeal had responded positively among people as consequence the movement had dethroned British ruler, India became independence in the year 1947 like this Anna appealed country’s peasants to forward a similar movement to fulfills their demands., he lauded.
Supporting NKS movement in Odisha demanding price, prestige and pension for farmers last few years Anna offered his support and viewed farmers have been victimized since from independence, in the last 22 years more than 12 Lakh farmers have been committed suicide due to agriculture failure and non-assistance from government benefits, acting on the event he has decided to tour 8 states and study the problems of farmers and proposed to hold an agitation in New Delhi. Moreover his perpetual demand Jan Lok Pal and Farmers problems would be both subjected in this mass stir, Anna informed.
Attending late Odisha chief minister Naba Krushna Choudhury birth anniversary held in Jagatsinghpur headquarters Padma Bhusan awardee Anna expressed his satisfaction and said late Choudhury was a true Gandhian, during his life time especially in pre independence period he had initiated several programmes for development of Agriculture and farmers in Odisha, so he is proud to launch a farmers movement in the eve of his birth anniversary in his native town on Thursday, Anna vowed.
Anna was welcomed by NKS activists at college square here at noon then proceeded to meeting place at collectorate Parade ground, the public meeting attended by NKS advisor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Rabi Das, state convener Seshadev Nanda NKS national convener Askhya Kumar presided the meeting. Thousands of NKS activists across the Jagatsinghpur district and farmers from out of districts were participated in the occasion.
