Dhenkanal: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal has started a special training programme based on hands on activities for the journalism diploma students of Odisha State Open University (OSOU), Sambalpur. The five day special training programme starting from 8th to 12th May was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of OSOU Dr. Srikant Mohapatra.
On the inaugural occasion Dr. Mohapatra emphasied on the idea of establishing Open University and the prospective of studying in an Open University. He also said that generally higher education is an urban centric notion and it is also very costly. That is why the basic motto and mission of Odisha State Open University (OSOU), Sambalpur is to reach the unreached, who are not privileged to get higher education. On the occasion he also forecasted the future plans of the Journalism department of OSOU, that the depart is planning to lunch two new courses, one certificate course in “Emerging and New Media” and “Post- Graduate diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication”.
In reference to the special training programme at IIMC, Dhenkanal, he said it is indeed a matter of fortune to get special traning from an institute like IIMC, which is an elite institute in its own category. He also said that OSOU is the only Open University in the country, which is providing special training programme to its students.
In his welcome address, Professor & Head of IIMC, Dhenkanal, Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee entrusted to institutionalise and formalise the training programme between IIMC, Dhenkanal and OSOU, Sambalpur. He also said that it is a mandate of a national institute to cater to reach each and every individual who is willing to learn. On the occasion Former Director of DD, Bhubaneswar Smt. Jayanti Rath was present as the guest of the honour.
In this 7th batch of OSOU students special training programme, there are a total of 34 students from various study centres have enrolled for the special training programme. On the inaugural occasion Senior Academic Consultant of OSOU Mr. Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra was also present along with the faculty and staff members of IIMC, Dhenkanal.
