400 SHGs in Odisha working round the clock, making cotton masks at the rate of 60,484 units per day

Bhubaneswar: With demand for masks is increasing amidst  COVID19 pandemic, women SHGs of Odisha have risen to occasion to supply affordable masks to govt & private agencies and local people. 400 SHGs are working round the clock and making cotton masks at the rate of 60,484 units per day. SHGs under Mission Shakti have proved their collective leadership during this trying time.

In Cuttack district, 55 SHGs have supplied 2.5 lakh masks at nominal rate. Three Producer groups formed by 30 SHGs comprising nearly 350 women have already manufactured nearly one lakh masks and are supplying to the local people at Rs 10 to 20 per mask . SHGs in Keonjhar district have started making masks on a large scale to meet the current demand from the public.They are making Double Layer 100% Cotton masks.The Group Pragati Utpadak Sangh-is procuring cloth;stitching it and using UV Steriliser and autoclave to sanitise it.
