Bhubaneswar: More than 100 heritage enthusiasts participated in the 35th Monks, Caves and Kings heritage trail at the Twin Hills of Udayagiri and Khandagiri. More than 90 students of IIT Bhubaneswar were there as part of their students’ outreach programme.
IIT Bhubaneswar students came with five of their administrative staff on the heritage tour in which they came to know about the local heritage site, its historical importance and its contribution towards the cultural traditions of the historic city, once known as Ekamra Kshetra.
Mahesh, a native of Bangalore, who was part of the IIT students’ team said “out of the day-to-day activities in the campus today’s experience was unique and different as it opened up a different experience to the students through effective story telling by the guide and the team.’’
Sayed Rashad from New Delhi was also very impressed with the walk, who works as a political strategy consultant in the city. “Being a student of Jamia Millia Islamia and as a participant in many tours to the heritage sites, especially old houses in Delhi, I was exposed to heritage walks, but today’s experience was different and unique. I hope lot and lot people should join like the students of IIT Bhubaneswar and make it more popular,’’ he added.
Captain Sonia Sangwan, a regional coordinator for a city-based national real-estate organization was happy to see the massive response from IIT Bhubaneswar as part of students’ outreach activity.
“Being from Army and an adventure sports enthusiast I have travelled across the nation, but being in Bhubaneswar I always found the heritage monuments a special attraction and I do spend time exploring all the heritage walks. I hope more and more educational institutions come forward and join such youth outreach activities,’’ Captain Sonia said.
Swapnil from Maharashtra said “outside the IIT campus amidst nature and the heritage monuments today’s experience was extraordinary and I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot from today’s heritage walk.’’
MUSEUM WALK IN ODIA
Meanwhile, the authorities at the Crafts Museum in Kala Bhoomi near Gandamunda started the Museum Walk with Odia guides in which six participants took part and explored the museum, which is beautifully decked up with unique Odia art and craft objects. It started at 3 pm and continued for an hour. Except Monday (closing day at Kala Bhoomi) the museum will have a walk with Odia guides all week days.
Earlier during the day 50 school students took part in different activities at the museum as part of the weekend activities for kids and school students.
