Bhubaneshwar: Energy Department, Government of Odisha in association with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has successfully distributed over one crore LED bulbs in Odisha under the Government of India’s UJALA (Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for all) scheme. The state has achieved the milestone within a year of launching the programme on same date last year.
With this milestone, Odisha becomes the 12th state crossing 1 crore distribution. Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and Kerala have already crossed the distribution of 1 Crore LED Lamps.
Distribution of 1 crore LED bulbs in Odisha has led to annual energy savings of over 129 crore kWh. The savings on Electricity bills of 19 Lakh consumers is estimated at Rs. 519 crore per annum.
On achieving this milestone, Shri Vivek Utpal, Regional Manager-Odisha, EESL said, “We are grateful to the government as well as the people of Odisha who have demonstrated the willingness to switch to an energy efficient lifestyle by adopting LED bulbs as the source of lighting. Odisha has thus become a strong contributor in the UJALA scheme’s 22 crore milestone nationally. This further reinforces our faith in the citizens of this country who are taking proactive steps in making India a truly energy efficient nation”.
EESL also provides free of cost replacement for all technical faults for three years. During the distribution, replacements can be done through any of the distribution counters that are operating within the city. Under the UJALA scheme in Odisha, each consumer can procure 9W LED bulbs at an upfront cost of ₹70 each. The consumers can avail the LED bulbs from EESL distribution kiosks.
EESL along with Grid Corporation of Odisha Limited is also distributing Energy Efficient Fans and LED Tube lights. These BEE 5 Star rated ceiling fans are 30% more energy efficient as compared to conventional fans. At present, these energy efficient fans are being distributed at Rs. 1,150/- on upfront basis. LED tube lights of 20W, which are 50% more energy efficient than the conventional 40 W tube lights, are also available to the consumers for Rs. 230/- per tube light.
