Odisha based freelance Journalist and rights activist Akhand received the Laadli Media and Advertising Award

Bhubaneswar: Odisha based freelance Journalist and rights activist Akhand received the Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2015-16 at a function in New Delhi on 23 March.
The Laadli Media Award, one of the most prestigious media awards in the country, is given every year for exemplary gender reporting.
The awards are given by Population First, and are supported by United Nations Population First. It was launched in 2007. A year later, UNFPA joined Population First to make it a pan India event.
Stuti Narain Kacker, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights(NCPCR), Diego Palacious, Country representative, UNFPA, Padmashri Syeda Hameed, Formee Member, Planning Commission of India and Dr. A.L.Sharada were the guests in the occasion.

Akhand’s entry titled ‘­Sangita Madhyamare sachetanata: Kanya Bhrunahatya Rokiba Lagi Gita Paribeshana Karuchhi Cuttackra rock band team'(Odia) had been selected for the Award in the ‘PRINT- NEWS REPORT’ category for East region. It was published in Yourstory.com, a media technology platform for entrepreneurs, dedicated to championing and promoting India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Akhand has been writing on various developmental issues including human rights and women empowerment since 2000. He has also honored with Sarojini Naidu National Prize for his reporting on role of women in Rural Governance in 2008. Recently, he is travelling in USA as part of International Visitor Leadership Program. So New Delhi based journalist Shyamsundar Sahoo received the award on his behalf.
