Bhubaneswar: As a build-up to the International Yoga Day on June 21st, the Ministry of AYUSH has partnered with the Art of Living, to organise a series of three-day ‘Yoga Utsavs’ across various state capitals to take Yoga to the masses. The Department of Yogic Science at Sri Sri University, founded by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, will be hosting the Odisha Yog Mahotsav at Bhubaneshwar’s Janata Maidan from the Friday, 24th to Sunday, 26th of March 2017.
Day 2 of Odisha Yog Mahotsat started with ‘Yoga for all’ at 6 am. This was followed by the major highlight the yogic practices for the youth. Practical and scientific techniques were imparted by Rev Swami Nikhileswarananda ji, Rev Swami Bodhamayanand ji Ramakrishna Mission, Brahmakumari Sheilu, Academy for Better World, Dr Aditya Kumar Mohanty, Mr Girin Govind and Mr Dinesh Kashikar by The Art of Living. Mr Niten Chandra, IAS, Principal Secretary, Dept of SSEPD, Government of Odisha enumerated how the body reacts to stimuli and calls for youth and all the people of the country to be in the righteous path
The afternoon session witnessed eight break-away sessions. One of the break-away session organized by the Dept of Good Governance and Public Policy of Sri Sri University with the topic ‘Yoga, Governance and Political Leadership’, the eminent political leader Shri Pratap Sarangi emphasized need of probity in public life with the help of Yogic way of living. Another break away session by Patanjali Yog Peeth focused on the obesity management through no drug. Other technical sessions include, Nishkama Karma in Bhagawat Gita, Yoga, as a technique to boost spirituality, health and well-being of students, Yoga Nidra, Science of Pranayam. A Yoga inter-college quiz competition was organized to increase popularity of Yoga among college-goers.
The evening Program is graced by Shri Bijayashree Routray, Hon’ble Minister Revenue and Disaster Management & Excise; Shri Arun Kumar Sahoo, Hon’ble Minister Panchayati Raj and Law among many dignitaries There are Yoga dance competition as a part of evening cultural programs.
The 3 day fun-filled festival will showcase the multifaceted discipline of Yoga through dance, music and food apart from yoga and meditation. Several organisations including the Art of Living, the Brahmakumaris, Patanjali Yog Peeth, Chinmaya Mission, North Odisha University, K.B. College and AYOS will be taking seminars, yoga, pranayama and meditation sessions at the Yog Mahotsav.
Under the patronage of Dept. of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department (SSEPD) of the Government of Odisha, the Yog Mahotsav is reaching out to elderly, the differently-abled, the transgender community and those battling addictions. More than one hundered Policemen including top officials of Commissioner of Police are attending the morning session, making Yoga a part of life.
The objective of the event is to take the science of handling the mind and emotions to the people at large. “The Mahotsav is called ‘Yoga beyond the body’, because it’s not just about asanas. Yoga is about all the techniques and the knowledge that help bring a balance in one’s mind and body. The Mahotsav will end on 26th March 2017.
