Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Chapter of Public Relations Society of India celebrated National Public Relations Day today with a webinar, in association with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal. Communication for Development Specialist of UNICEF India Ms Lopamudra Tripathy, and Senior Public Relations Professional & Former Chief of Communications Rourkela Steel Plant Mr Ramendra Kumar deliberated on the topic on ‘Public Relations for Public Awareness: Let’s build a COVID Free World’, which was the theme of this year.
National President of PRSI Dr Ajit Pathak, Regional Director and Head of IIMC, Dhenkanal Prof Mrinal Chatterjee and Chairman of PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter Mr Amar Jyoti Mohapatra also addressed in the webinar.
COVID-19 has also posed varieties of communication challenges and Public Relations strategies can effectively contribute to addressing the same, said the speakers. In addition to the Vaccine, awareness about the practice of the social vaccine is highly important for fighting the global pandemic. The social vaccine is about maintaining physical distancing, use of face masks, frequent hand washing, sanitising, and other COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Communication Professionals need to work on sensitising people about the Social Vaccine, the speakers suggested.
Students of IIMC, Dhenkanal and KIIT School of Mass Communication and members of PRSI Bhubaneswar Chapter participated in the programme. Senior Member of the Chapter Mr. Shashank Pattnaik presented the welcome address and Assistant Professor of IIMC, Dhenkanal Sambit Pal facilitated the question and answer session. Secretary of the Chapter Sanjay Kumar Sahoo coordinated the webinar.
