Odisha won Sportstar Aces Award for Best State for Promotion of Sports

Bhubaneswar: Odisha got the state of the year award for promotion of sports in the Sportstar Aces Awards. CM Naveen Patnaik receives the award at Mumbai from World Champion Viswanathan Anand.

For hosting a successful hockey World Cup after the Asian Athletics Championships and the Hero Super Cup, Odisha won the Best State for Promotion of Sports honour at the Sportstar Aces Awards in Mumbai on Thursday. The Award jury comprises Sunil Gavaskar, MM Somaya, Anjali Bhagwat, Anju Bobby George & N. Ram.

 

I thank The Hindu & illustrious Jury of Sportstar Aces Awards for honouring Odisha with the “State of the Year for the Promotion of Sports”. I dedicate this award to the four and half crore sports loving people of Odisha said CM Naveen Patnaik in his acceptance speech.

In sports & politics you need passion to succeed. Passion to win makes a winner, passion for game make an icon. Similarly, passion for power wins elections while passion to serve wins people. Without competitive spirit, great achievements aren’t possible said CM Naveen Patnaik in his acceptance speech.

Investment in sports is investment in youth. And, investment in youth is investment in the future. Involvement of States is important for sports development. If States adopt games, it will benefit the sports ecosystem & broaden catchment for sports talent said CM Naveen Patnaik in his acceptance speech.

A competitive spirit is hallmark of both sports & politics. We overcame the challenge to convert 20 lakh kuccha houses to pucca in 5 years, by fuelling a competitive spirit amongst districts & recognising achievements and 2 mn families got shelter security said CM Naveen Patnaik in his acceptance speech.
