Chhatrapur: Laxmidutta Pradhan alias Bachana, the councillor of ward number six of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district was stabbed to death by some unidentified miscreants today.
As per sources, a group of 10-12 miscreants attacked him and his brother with swords and other sharp weapons after entering his house near LIC colony in Chhatrapur. Pradhan’s brother, who tried to come to his rescue, was also critically injured in the incident.
Sources said a group of 10 to 12 youths attacked Pradhan with swords and other sharp weapons. He was rushed to the MKCG Medical College Hospital here but succumbed to the injuries. A large number of his supporters thronged the hospital when the police sent the dead body for postmortem.
Pradhan, who was a popular BJD leader in the area, was an accused in the case of murder of one Sakura Behera in 2016 and was on bail. Earlier, his supporters had warned him against threat to his life.
The whole incident of murder has been recorded in the CCTV installed in the house of Pradhan. The police are scrutinising the CCTV footages to ascertain the identities of the assailants. His brother, who was an eyewitness to the attack, has identified some of the assailants.
Police said they suspected old enmity to be the motive behind the crime. They have formed three teams to investigate and nab the attackers.
