Odisha Police seized Rs 1-cr brown sugar in Khordha; inter-State drug peddler nabbed

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch arrested a drug peddler from West Bengal following a raid near Tangi in Khordha district on NH-16 and seized brown sugar weighing 1.043 grams.

The accused was identified as Safikul Sk alias Khokan of Murshidabad in the neighbouring State.

Khokan was arrested while he was trying to strike a deal of the narcotics near Tangi on Wednesday. The market price of the seized contraband was estimated to be around Rs 1 crore, STF officials said.

The accused was nabbed following a raid by a team of STF, Bhubaneswar based on inputs regarding the illegal trade of narcotics drugs.

“During search, Brown Sugar weighing 1.43 kg and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession. The accused person could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials, for which the accused was arrested and forwarded to the court of Special Judge and District and Sessions Judge, Cuttack,” the STF said in a release.

A case under Section 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered in connection with the incident. STF officials said that the involvement of other inter-State peddlers has been ascertained and steps are being taken to nab them, the STF said.
