Odisha: Gumandali Gang-rape and murder: Congress calls 12-hour bandh

Report by Basant Rath; Nabarangpur: Alleging police inaction in the gang rape and murder of a minor girl incident of Gumandali village under Kosagumuda police limit the Congress has called for a twelve-hour ‘peaceful bandh’ in the district
on 26th December.

Working president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Pradeep Majhi,
told reporters “The bandh will be observed in a peaceful manner. We
urge the people to support the move of Congress. All business
establishments will remain shut down. Buses, trucks and other vehicles
will go off the road,” he said.

The minor girl had gone missing on 13th night of this month after she
went out the house to relieve herself. When she did not return, family
members started searching for her and on 14th the body of a minor girl
with scars and bruises was found lying on a farmland near her house in
Gumandali village under Koshagumuda block. A pair of trousers were
also lying near the body leading to suspicion that she had been gang
raped and killed.

We demanded Rs 20lakh compensation for the family of the victim and
immediate arrest of the culprits district administration with police
assured the family members of the deceased but in vain alleged
District congress committee president, Muna Tripathy.

Sources said eight days after the incident; the police are
investigating the case but yet to make any headway in the case except
for detaining and interrogating four youths of Kotpad police limit in
Koraput district.
