Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik launches KALIA Scholarship

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled KALIA Scholarship (“KALIA Chhatra Brutti’’) at the Secretariat here today for the children of the KALIA Scheme beneficiaries, who are studying and aspiring for technical and professional education.
After taking the historic step towards transforming the economic standards of the farmers of Odisha through Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA), the State Government has come up with KALIA Scholarship in order to ensure human resource development among the farming families across the State. KALIA Scheme is first of its kind assistance mechanism for farmers in India and has been followed by others as well for its noble means, ideation and inclusiveness.
KALIA Scholarship or “KALIA Chhatra Brutti’’ will ensure that not a single eligible child of KALIA beneficiaries aspiring for technical and professional education, would be deprived of his/her dream, as through KALIA Scholarship the State Government will bear all expenditure including course fees, hostel fees and mess fees etc., so that the children from the farming families would be able to take the economic conditions of their families to higher level after getting proper technical and professional education.
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment in a letter to Higher Education, Health and Family Welfare, Skill Development and Technical Education and Vice-Chancellor Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, has urged all heads of different Government institutions imparting professional/technical education under their respective departments to immediately intimate their students who are children of KALIA Scheme beneficiaries to apply for the KALIA Scholarship. The students can apply online on the “kalia.co.in/scholarship’’ portal and can apply from today itself.
Eligible children of KALIA Scheme beneficiaries can avail assistance to study in more than 13 professional/technical subjects like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, B.Pharma, BSC Nursing, BVS and AH, BE, BArch and B Plan, BSC Agriculture, BSC Horticulture, BSC Forestry, BSC Fisheries, BSC Community Science through more than 30 Government institutions provided they fulfil the criteria for admission into these courses.
Secondly, for more than 11 technical education and Diploma courses in all ITIs, Polytechnics, Agro Polytechnics, D.Pharma, DMLT, BMRT, PBSC, GNM, ANM, Psychiatry Nursing, Ophthalmic Assistant/Surgical OPTH Assistant across the State in more than 150 institutions, financial assistance will be provided to the eligible children of KALIA Scheme beneficiaries.
It could be pertinent to mention here that in case of KALIA Scholarship the funds would be directly sent to the bank accounts of the eligible students through DBT. The funds provided under KALIA Scholarship will cover tuition fees, annual college fees, onetime college fees and hostel establishment charges (as per institutions concerned) and messing fees as per the provisions of SC/ST Welfare Department.
The KALIA portal on KALIA Scholarship will require applicant’s information through documents like proof of permanent address, Aadhar number of applicant, parents’ information, Aadhar number of father/mother/guardian, bank details, academic details and undertakings.
Once children of KALIA beneficiary apply for the KALIA Scholarship, Head of the educational institution would verify the genuineness of the applicant, whether day scholar or hostel boarder, whether in receipt of any scholarship earlier or not etc.
The Chief Minister had announced this “KALIA Chhatra Brutti’’ for professional and technical education for wards of KALIA beneficiaries at a massive gathering of KALIA farmers in Keonjhar on February 3, 2019.
