“Cleanliness should be a way of life” : Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD
Bhubaneswar: NALCO celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti by organising Swachhata Abhiyan. The cleanliness drive started in the morning from NALCO Square and concluded in the NALCO Nagar, which was joined by Bureau Chiefs of media, eminent writers, artistes, sportspersons and social activists. “Swachhata is not only an Abhiyan (campaign), but also should be abhyas (practice).Cleanliness should be a way of life – both at the personal and professional fronts,” said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) while addressing a large gathering of swachha sevak and swachha sevika. Earlier, in the last month NALCO has started Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by organising number of cleanliness programmes in NALCO Township and surrounding areas, creating awareness among residents, students and youth through various competitions, skits, swachhata campaign etc.
Directors of NALCO, President, NALCO Mahila Samiti, Shri Sudarshan Sahoo, eminent sculptor, CEOs and bureau chiefs of several newspapers, eminent writers, artistes, sportspersons and social activists joined the programme and cleaned the path. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chand also announced the institution of ‘NALCO Swachh Sevak / Swachh Sevika’ Award to recognize the persons involved in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. “The award will be presented during NALCO foundation day and carry two cash prize of Rs.50,000/ each and three prizes of Rs.25,000/ each-,” added Dr. Chand.
On the occasion, as part of the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Birth Centenary Celebrations, a road of NALCO Nagar was also dedicated as ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Marg’ by Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand. Among others, students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, XIMB, members of NALCO Mahila Samiti and senior officials of NALCO were present on the occasion.
