He said, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had taken initiative to develop some prominent Indian higher education institutions into world-class institutes. With a view to this, Govt. of India constituted an Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) under the chairmanship of N. Gopalaswami, former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and five other members.
Many reputed institutions of India had applied and took part in the process for the IoE status. These institutions made a presentation in New Delhi about their institutes. The Expert Committee selected 10 public and 10 private institutions based on their presentation and recommended to the University Grants Commission (UGC). In this process, only 3 public and 3 private institutes were conferred IoE in the first phase. Later, it was examined by the UGC and the Expert Committee and finally 5 institutes each from public and private sectors were selected for the ‘Institute of Eminence’ tag.
Among these five private institutes selected, KIIT Deemed to be University is the only institution from Odisha get the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status. The HRD Ministry has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to KIIT on September 4, 2019. It was founded in 1992-93 as a vocational training centre from rented premises with a seed capital of only Rs. 5000. But, despite being a very young university, it has secured an impressive position in various global university rankings only due to the blessings of God. KIIT has been giving importance to quality education, research and development since its inception. As a result, it became possible for KIIT to achieve this success. It is a matter of pride not only for students, staff, faculties and guardians of KIIT Deemed to be University, but also for Odisha, Dr. Samanta said.
