Barbil: In an effort to uplift the socio-economic condition of the local community by way of generating sustainable livelihood options, Jan Jeevika Kendra, a Livelihood Centre, supported by JSPL Foundation, the CSR arm of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) was opened here on Friday. The Centre was inaugurated by Shri Rajeev Bhadauria, Director, Group-Human Resource, Jindal Steel and Power Limited.
To start with, the Centre will impart training to local women and youth on livelihood pragrammes encompassing farm and non-farm sectors. Under livelihood training pragramme, the participants will be trained on production of mushroom, papad, incense sticks and soap while under agriculture traits of scientific methods of paddy cultivation like SRI and seasonal vegetables will be imparted.
Inaugurating the Centre, Shri Rajeev Bhadauria lauded willingness of the local women for participation in the programmes. He said, more and more participation by women will not only economically empower them, but shall accelerate equal participation of women in decision making at homes. “I appreciate the initiatives taken up by JSPL Foundation for economic upliftment of the locals. In coming years, the Jan Jeevika Kendra will be popular as a Skilling Centre in the region”, Shri Rajeev Bhadauria said.
Besides the Livelihood Centre, a Sports Complex was built in the vicinity of the pellet plant for imparting Sports coaching to the local youth. Kickboxing and other martial sports will be the dominant theme in the Sports Centre for this year. On a daily basis, young boys and girls in the groups will be given training by Asian Indoor Games Kickboxing Medalist Shri Pankaj Mahanta, as the coach. JSPL Barbil Unit Head Shri Suresha G said “Sports Complex installed with high quality equipment, will be the best platform for the aspiring kickboxers in the region.” On the occasion, 50 sports kits were distributed amongst the budding talents.
Among other dignitaries, Shri SK Agrawal, EVP (Commercial); Shri BB Pradhan, VP, (HR), Shri Vargil Lakra, Head CSR (Barbil Unit), Shri Jadumani Mahanta, Shri Mangal Munda, Sarpanch, Deojhar GP; Shri Ydhisthir Palei, PS member; Shri Trilochan Palei and Shri Janardan Nayak were present on the occasion.
