New Delhi: A global virtual conference aimed at promoting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for the development of Odisha and advancement of Odia language in the digital era is being organized on 4th October Sunday, on the virtual meeting platform Zoom. The conference, called Odias in ML Conference, is being organized by a group of Odias, also called Odias in ML, with a shared interest in AI and ML. The conference also aims to showcase career and entrepreneurship opportunities in AI and ML for Odias across the world.
This first-of-its-kind conference will see participation of a multitude of stakeholders including technologists, researchers, academicians, business executives, entrepreneurs, policymakers, linguists, language activists, media persons and community leaders, all with a commitment to AI and machine learning. The speakers, all Odias based across three continents, will come together to brainstorm how the opportunities created by these emerging technologies can be leveraged effectively to propel the next phase of growth for Odisha and Odias.
The conference, to commence at 5 pm IST, will comprise four sessions, themed AI for Odisha, AI for Odia language, Research & Career Opportunities in AI; and Entrepreneurship and Business Opportunities in AI. Each session will be a combination of keynotes, presentations and panel discussions.
Keynote speakers in the conference include Manoj Mishra, Secretary, Electronics & IT, Government of Odisha; Mrs Kuku Das, President, Odisha Society of America; Dr Pragyansmita Nayak, Chief Data Scientist, Hitachi; Susmita Bagchi, noted writer and Chairperson, Mo School initiative of Government of Odisha; Prof Panchanan Mohanty, noted linguist and president, Linguistics Society of India; Prof Chitta Baral, noted computational linguist and professor at University of Arizona; Tushar Patnaik, Joint Director, C-DAC; Chidananda Khatua, noted technologist and CEO of Equbot; Prof Prasant Mohapatra, Vice Chancellor for Research, University of California Davis and Vivekananda Pani, CTO Reverie Technologies.
Other important speakers and panellists will include Kirti Sundar Sahu, Subhadarshi Panda, Soumendra Sahu, Subhashis Panigrahi, Dr Shantipriya Parida, Prof Sanghamitra Mohanty, Kumarika Mohanty, Sudeept Maharana, Pradeepta Mishra, Ayaashkanta Mohanty, Dhirendra Kar and Dr Sanjay Raut.
The sessions will be moderated by Shyamanuja Das, Sitikantha Panigrahi, Anjan Kumar Panda, Damodar Sahu and Prasant Bhunya.
“We aim to bring together Odias across the world working on different aspects of AI/ML to collectively work towards creating opportunities for Odisha, Odia language and Odia people. The Odias in ML conference is the first in a series of initiatives we have planned to make it a continuous movement,” said Anjan Kumar Panda, Convenor, Odias in ML Conference.
