Elite Forces to step up operation against Maoists across porous border

Report by Kishore Dash, Bhubaneswar: The blueprint for the joint security operations in the Maoist affected bordering States will be chalked out by senior officials of Odisha in consultation with officials of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh at Visakhapatnam on October 10 for a coordinated action to prevent the Maoists from using a common corridor among the States to escape, said Border Security Forces Additional Director General Arun Kumar while speaking to the media at the BSF Headquarters here on Thursday to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made by the BSF on several occasions.

Anti-Maoist operation will be further intensified along porous Orissa border with Chhattisgarh on one side & cut-off region adjoining Andhra Pradesh on the other in Malkangiri district of Odisha, Kumar said adding the Tulsi Mountain along Odisha-Chhatisgarh border will be the focal point for the elite forces. Lauding the role played by the elite forces, Kumar informed to the media that about 2000 Border Security Forces have lain down their lives in safeguarding the Nation during war ,peace counter insurgency operation and internal security.

Echoing Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent statement that BSF is the First wall of our defence system” the BSF Additional Director General Arun Kumar said the forces are discharging multifarious responsibilities. Eight battalions of BSF, each consisting of 1000 personnel have been deployed in trouble-torn Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts to take on the Left Wing Extremists there.

Launching a website www.bsfhalfmarathonodisha.com on the occasion, Kumar said that BSF is all set to organize Half Marathon in the memory of the brave hearts on October 22 this year in major cities of India including Bhubaneswar which has been declared as the first smart city of the country. The soldiers of Odisha have always remained at for serving the motherland forefront while fighting with insurgents, he said.

Divulging the details of the half marathon race, the BSF officials said that it will be kicked off from the Kalinga Stadium (Gate No-4).the event will have three categories including 21 km for men & women( 18 years and above),10 km runs for men & women( 18 years and above) and 5 km run for Children’s below 14 years age. The event winners will awarded cash and trophies

The participants can register online either by paying Rs.100 or depositing the same at the counters to be opened near the prominent parks in the city from October 14 onwards. The money to be collected from the participants will be deposited in the welfare fund meant for the families of the BSF personnel’s, the officials informed.BSF Inspector General A.K.Singh was also spoke on the occasion.

Organized by Bhubaneswar based BSF headquarters under the leadership of BSF DIG (Intelligence) and Chief Public Relation Officer Jaya Chandra Nayak , the meet was attended by a galaxy of media personalities.
