Bhubaneswar: Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Surendra Kumar as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha. He will replace DN Gupta.
The appointment of Kumar as the CEO was informed to the State Government in a gazette notification on Wednesday.
A 1993-batch IAS officer, Surendra Kumar is currently serving as the ST and SC Welfare Department Principal Secretary and holds the additional charge of Information and Public Relations (I and PR) Department Secretary.
The ECI had earlier asked the State Government to recommend names of three senior IAS officers for appointment of a new CEO, following which the State Government had recommended those of Surendra Kumar, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare secretary Vir Vikram Yadav and Northern Division Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) DV Swami.
