Development of Odisha can’t be possible without Dalits participation: Congress

Bhubaneswar: When the governments at the centre and state talking of development and financial inclusion they are not giving priority to the Dalits. The BJD is enjoying power in the state since more than last 18 years. But they have not been able to protect the rights of Dalits. At the same time BJP at every point of time is anti Dalits. Only reservation can’t bring them fortune or develop them, number of schemes must be prepared and implemented with sincerity. Minus Dalits there can be no development of Odisha, said Mr Niranjan Pattnaik, PCC Chief.
In a congregation of Dalits organised at Swadhinata Sangrami Sadan here Mr Pattnaik told, the fundamental rights of Dalits has weakened in the hands of BJD and BJP. The atrocities will rise against Dalits, these political parties will try to end the reservation system and amend the rule accordingly. On the other hand Congress always has and always will keep fighting for their rights..
PCC Chief said, Dalits in Odisha are economically and socially backward. Their issues are not only confined to caste system; they need social and financial development. Some political parties like BJP have never raised their issues. Congress appointed Dr. B R Ambedkar as head of Constitution making body of India because Congress wanted to protect the fundamental rights of Dalits as well as every section of the society in the constitution. But RSS opposed the Constitution written by Dr Ambedkar. They don’t want that all section of the society get equal opportunities and equal status. Only law can’t do everything, we have to prove it through our behaviour and sincere implementation. Development of Dalits can’t be possible as long as cast system prevails in our society. To give proper respect to the Dalits, to protect their rights as enshrined in the Constitution, Congress will fight till last breath. For this awareness must be created at the grass root level, said Niranjan.
Mr Jignesh Mewani, Congress MLA of Gujrat and renowned Dalit leader heavily criticised both BJD and BJP for their sheer negligence. He said, the State government is silent on Kunduli issue. The poor people’s hard earned money has been looted by chit fund mafias. It is astonishing that BJD government is not raising its voice against the BJP government at the Centre on Rafael scam. BJP and BJD are two sides of a coin. They support each other in every act, alleged Jignesh.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Chairperson, Congress SC Cell. The dignitaries present on the dias are Mr Jayadev Jena and Mr Prasad Harichandan both former PCC Presidents, Mr Ratan Lal, Prof Bijay Bohidar, Mr Chiranjibi Biswal, Mr Narasingha Mishra, opppsition leader in the State Assembly, Mr Janardan Pati, Mr Ramakrushna Panda, Mr Ganeswar Behera, Mr Harish Mohapatra.
