Under this initiative, DCBL team has imparted training to more than 50 women of various Self Help Groups from Rajgangpur and Lanjiberna in Sundargarh district for bulk production of face masks in this unprecedented covid crisis.
The SHG members, after taking up mask production professionally, have managed to secure a bulk order of 1,10,000 masks that are to be delivered within 2 months. Apart from providing raw material for the production of these masks, DCBL team is helping them in sanitisation and packaging of the deliverable masks. The SHG team is making 4000 masks (approx.) per day and has already delivered 33,000 masks. It is noteworthy to mention that through this initiative these women (of SHGs) are providing financial support to their families in this lockdown period.
Speaking on this, Mr. Sunil Gupta, Regional Manufacturing Head (East), Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. said, “To support communities and empower them, we at Dalmia Bharat provide basic life skill training to Women Self Help Groups across the country. Considering the impact of the pandemic and how it has affected workers and labourers nationwide, we decided to give mask-making training to Women SHGs with an aim to provide a steady source of income when all other means have stopped due to the nationwide lockdown. The SHG members have already delivered over 33,000 masks to help the nation fight against Covid-19.”
Talking about her experience of working with Dalmia Bharat Foundation, Seema Ekka from Lanjiberna village said, “During this lockdown, the company provided mask-making training to help us support our families and to run our household. In a day, we as a team can manufacture close to 4000 masks. We thank Dalmia Bharat foundation that they have helped us during this period, wherein we are able to run our households by working from home. Till the lockdown ends, we aim to continuously manufacture masks to support the country’s fight against this disease.”
As a company, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd provides livelihood training to women of the local community and SHG members in stitching, cloth bag making, phenyl making, mushroom cultivation at home, etc. Post training, these women can take up the activity individually or in groups under SHGs to boost their income.
