Congress Threatens to gherao Odisha assembly over delivering justice over gang rape case

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of Congress on Wednesday threatened to gherao the state Assembly over the Kundli gang rape incident.

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati came down heavily on the state government soon after CM Naveen Patnaik ordered for a judicial probe into the gang rape incident. He alleged that the order is only to delay the time instead of delivering justice to the victim.

“The Chief Minister played a drama. First, he directed HRPC ADG Mahendra Pratap and Koraput SP to give the reports and tell that the investigation is underway, later he gave the judicial probe order today. It will yield no results. The career of the innocent minor girl will be damaged. The state government has planned to hide the entire matter,” alleged Bahinipati.

“We are confident that the report won’t come to the State Assembly. But, we will continue our fight for her justice. Let the Winter Session begin, we will produce the victim on the floor of the House, if needed,” he threatened.

Today, senior BJP leader Pratap Chandra Sarangi also sought for a CBI probe into the incident alleging the involvement of state government officials in the crime.

Notably, a 14-year-old minor girl from Musaguda village under Pottangi police limits in Koraput district was sexually assaulted allegedly by a group of four persons in uniform on October 10.
