Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) today organised “Gift-a-Bicycle” event in which cycles were distributed to 15 Peer Leaders, who were associated with BSCL and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation during the COVID-19 related awareness and sanitation drives.
Today’s event was part of the CycleGiri and Cyclothon organized in the city to make the use of cycle for a healthy body, mind and immunity boosting activity. It can be mentioned here that the Peer Leaders of the Socially Smart Bhubaneswar Project of the Smart City have done an extra-ordinary work during the pandemic as “COVID Sachetaks’’ and helped the citizens in various ways to create awareness and also served the people under various containment zones across the Temple City.
Among others, General Manager (Administration) Kamaljit Das, Chief Finance Officer Manoranjan Samantaray, General Manager (Engineering) Aswini Kumar Biswal and Company Secretary Ajaya Kumar Majhi of the Bhubaneswar Smart City were present.
The Cyclothon and CycleGiri events under the FitIndia initiative have resulted in a considerable rise in the use of cycle among youth and middle-aged populace. Cycling has always remained an immunity boosting activity and during the pandemic. It has a great potential to transform the fitness of the urban youth to smart and resilient ways. We hope all the citizens of the Temple City are watching the cycle-related activities and remain active.
Apart from the distribution to the 15 Peer Leaders under a new initiative 10 numbers of cycles were also donated to office attendants and housekeeping staff of BSCL. The city has a robust network of public bicycle sharing system and also during the previous months the citizens have participated in two Cyclothons, i.e. one from Sishu Bhawan Square and Dhauli and the other from Sishu Bhawan Square to Sikharchandi Hills.
BSCL and BMC have also organized CycleGiri on Friday to donate cycles to the needy under the “Gift-a-Bicycle” event at various locations in the city. Ollywood star-turned politician Siddhant Mohapatra, an avid cyclist himself and veteran cyclist Minati Mohapatra, the first Odia Arjuna Award winner and First Woman Cyclist of Odisha were guests during the Cyclothon events.
