Lanjigarh: Vedanta’s alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, has initiated a Telemedicine Service in the region through its hospital. During the COVID-19 lock down, this facility will help patients connect with doctors over phone for free consultation while not requiring them to be in proximity with each other and maintaining social distance.
Specialists in pediatrics, orthopedics, general medicine and an AYUSH doctor will attend to the patients on call every day from 9 am to 7 pm. Patients can also call through WhatsApp and medicines can also be prescribed through the same medium. This facility will ease the difficulties of the patients who are coming from remote villages and over long distances.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh says: “At Vedanta, we believe in inclusive growth and give utmost importance to the wellbeing of our communities. During the COVID-19 lockdown, many patients from far-flung areas do not have the option to come to the Vedanta hospital for consultation. Therefore, we have started this Telemedicine facility in our hospital to serve the community as best as we can.”
This is in addition to the company’s numerous initiatives to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its employees, associate partners and the communities against COVID-19. These include distribution of masks, soaps and other essentials along with creating awareness like handwash practice, Respiratory hygiene, time to time Govt. policies, rules and benefits through mike announcement, disinfection and fumigation of public places, etc. Also, the company’s 20-bedded hospital is in a state of preparedness to support the district administration. A 24×7 telephonic helpline has been set up by Vedanta hospital to address any queries or concerns on COVID-19 from the community. The hospital continues to serve about 7000 patients per month from the community with doctor consultations and free medicine support.

The company operates a 2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) capacity alumina refinery in Lanjigarh (Kalahandi district, Odisha), India since 2007 and an associated 90 MW captive power plant.
