Lanjigarh : Vedanta Limited’s Lanjigarh business unit observed International Women’s Day by conducting a program in partnership with Mahashakti Foundation (NGO) on 17th March. A fort-night long program came to an end with the concluding ceremony wherein the company invited all the member representatives of 192 Self-Help Groups under Project Sakhi. Also invited in the event were the members of child care center ASHA and Anganwadi which included over 700 women from the peripheral villages. The community celebration at CSR office campus was marked by the lighting of lamp by Mr. Bimalananda Senapati, Plant Head Lanjigarh who was also the Chief Guest for the event. Also present were Mr. Jalaj Malpani, Head Finance, Mr. Malaya Ku. Meher- DDM, NABARD, Mrs. Swarnalata Biswas – DSWO, Kalahandi, Mrs. Renu Majumdar – President, Vedanta Ladies club, Mrs. Kalpani Majhi- Member, Zillaparishad, Mrs. Manguli Majhi – Sarpanch, Basantpada, Ms. Mani Majhi – Sarpanch, Lanjigarh, Mrs. Kusum Praharaj, CDPO, Lanjigarh, Mrs. Shukla Chakrabaorty – Principal, DAV Vedanta International school and Mr. JK Pattnaik –CEO, Mahashakti Foundation along with the other member representatives of Vedanta Ladies club and partnering NGO members. Guests stressed upon the importance of women empowerment initiatives and the role of a woman in a nation’s development. Some of the attractive programs during the event included dances by girls, skit performance by the SHG members on various socio-economic issues such as sanitation and awareness on the importance of SHG & Federation and Child education. Three stalls were also put up to show case SHG products, handicrafts and Health services rendered to the community through First Aid Centre and MHU facility. Winners of the various competitions held earlier were awarded by the Guests. While the natural resources sector is not traditionally known for hiring women, everyone at Vedanta has made a significant contribution in their roles. Vedanta’s female workforce is continuously breaking stereotypes to achieve their personal and professional goals. According to Mr. Suresh Bose, Head, group human resources at Vedanta, “Women bring unique insights irrespective of the sector.
