Bhubaneswar : As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Utkal Alumina International Ltd. (UAIL), an Aditya Birla Group company, have launched the much-needed Computer Literacy Project at Nuapada in the Kashipur block of Rayagada district.
Its CSR wing – Utkal Alumina Jana Seva Trust (UAJST), has collaborated with the state-run Odisha Knowledge Corporation Ltd. (OKCL), to function as their Authorised Learning Centre (ALC). It offers the Odisha State Certificate on Information Technology (OS-CIT) course at a subsidised fee. Till date, 139 students in eight batches have undertaken the course at the centre. Recently, OKCL awarded Utkal Alumina Jana Seva Trust the first position in maintaining consistent performance at the district level. The centre was recognised for the “Highest OS-CIT admission in the district”.
“Utkal Alumina has a multitude of initiatives to ensure the welfare of communities living in proximity to their project area. Continuing our efforts towards inclusive development, we have launched this initiative. It is helping hone the computer skills of the youth”, said Mr. N. Nagesh, Unit Head, UAIL. “This project will also help take the Digital India initiative ahead,” he added.
“This project has led to creating awareness of computer basics. Basically, students having finished their high school enlist in the program and some older members also join, stated Mr. Rakesh Mishra, the AVP of UAIL.
One of the programme beneficiaries is Mr. Murali Gauda, a 38-year-old enthusiast from Lachuguda village. He is a supervisor in a nursery. He took the OS-CIT course, which he believes will add to his employability.
Mr. L N Padhi, the Lead Coordinator of District Lead Centre, OKCL, welcomed the initiative and looked upon it as an immensely value-added service that will benefit maximum number of people.
Through its various CSR interventions, UAIL continues to reach out to the marginalised and underprivileged section of the society in the area of health care, education, sustainable livelihood, infrastructure, and social reform. Utkal Alumina has made a difference to the lives of hundreds of people in the vicinity of Rayagada district of Odisha.
