Red Warning issued as heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places of Odisha

Bhubaneswr: Red Warning issued as heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely to occur over the districts of Koraput, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Sundargarh & Deogarh informed Special Relief Commissioner, Odisha.

The well-marked low pressure area now lies over north interior Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand with associated cyclonic circulation.

In addition, a fresh low pressure area is likely to develop over the north west Bay of Bengal and it’s neighbourhood around the 23rd of this month. As a result, Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Odisha for quite some time now.

Due to the impact of repeated cyclonic formations over the Bay of Bengal many parts of Odisha have been well drenched with extremely heavy rainfall over the districts of North and South interior areas.

While Salepur in Cuttack district has recorded a high of 30 cm rainfall, many other areas have received rainfall ranging between 7 to 30 cms.

The MET department has issued red warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Koraput, Nawrangpur, Malkangiri and Sundargarh districts during the next 24 hours.

In addition, orange and yellow warnings indicating advisory preparedness, have also been issued for clusters comprising 7 to 8 districts each.
