NTPC continues its relentless spirit to combat Covid-19

Kaniha: The Corona pandemic has failed to dent the spirit of NTPC, India’s largest power producer, in providing uninterrupted power supply to the nation. Every power station of NTPC has risen to the occasion and is performing at its optimum level including NTPC Talcher Kaniha.

The COVID-19 crisis has underlined the significance of the power utilities, which have assumed greater significance as electricity is extremely critical in the smooth functioning of several sectors of the economy. NTPC is also efficiently managing the coal supplies for the continuous supply of electricity. The station has registered a PLF of 80.93 % in April 2020.

In this effort, NTPCians at Odisha’s largest power station, Talcher Super Thermal Power Station are working on the frontline to ensure round the clock power supply. The station is strictly adhering to the guidelines regarding lockdown and social distancing in its Control Room and other Operation areas. Masks and sanitizers have been provided to employees and contractual workers of various departments for proper hygiene. The Station has also installed washbasins and liquid soap dispensers at Entry Gates to enforce hand washing.Thermal scanners were used by CISF personnel to check for body temperature of employees and contractual at its plant entry/exit gates as preventive measure to contain COVID-19.

Beyond power output, NTPC Talcher Kaniha is making substantial contributions to the social welfare activities for the underprivileged section and workers in the vicinity of the Plant by providing ration, masks, and medical aid. Under its CSR initiative, the Station has distributed over 20000 reusable masks to its nearby villages, BDO and other stakeholders. The management of NTPC is monitoring the developments closely so that every corner of the country remains adequately powered in its fight against COVID-19.

Since the nation-wide lockdown has come into effect in the light of Covid-19, providing financial support to families has become a struggle for many. With major sources of livelihood for masses in India is under uncertainty, it is facemasks which are coming to the rescue as a means of income generation. In this pursuit, Odisha’s largest power plant, NTPC Talcher Kaniha has been working persistently support women in villages around its Station.

This effort is not only making masks more accessible for people in rural areas but also ensuring an effective means of livelihood for many.In addition, employees are participating in voluntary contribution for distribution of grocery items to needy villagers and labourers.Till date 680 families have been benefited by the noble initiative of employees. The station is conducting massive sanitation drive with bleaching powder in its plant and township campus regularly. Banners on COVID prevention and guidelines issued by Govt are being displayed at Big LED screen installed at its campus for creating awareness on the do’s and don’ts on COVID-19 prevention.
