Bhubaneswar: National Executive Council meet of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) was held today at Bhubaneswar to discuss issues concerning the welfare of the working journalists across the country. Senior journalists including Shri K. Sreenivas Reddy, General Secretary Shri D. Amar, & Vice President of International Federation of Journalists Ms. Sabina Inderjit were present on the occasion. Considered the think tank of journalists, more than 60 IJU members from 24 states participated in the meet.
Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, Nalco graced the occasion as the chief guest and interacted with the media professionals who are attending this meet at the temple city. Speaking on Mass Media & Mass Society, Dr. Chand said that media is more than a mirror of public opinion. While it reflects true & fair picture of public opinion it also very often generates and promotes public opinion.
Speaking about the home state, Dr Chand also said that due to low visibility at national & international level and lack of market, Odisha is not attracting sufficient number of project proponents despite rich in resources. He urged the media fraternity to highlight Odisha’s strength, so that industrial investment climate gets a boost and enough jobs are created.
In his address, Shri Prabhat Das, President, Odisha Journalists Union, said that Dr. Chand as a hard working and hard core professional has been able to deliver desired results irrespective of wherever he worked & under whatever capacities. Under his leadership NALCO is progressing well. Besides, Dr Chand’s commitment for progress of Odisha is evident from his actions, he added.
Addressing the members, Shri. S.N. Sinha, IJU President, said, “Our vision is to make democracy more vibrant, but democracy can’t survive without media. We are committed to Free Press so that it benefits society.’’ The National Executive Meet was hosted by the Odisha Journalists Union (OJU).
