Barbil: Continuing its effort to make the rural women self-reliant and economically independent, JSPL Foundation, the CSR arm of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) has opened a tailoring training centre at Dampur village in Keonjhar district. The centre was inaugurated by members of local self-help groups in presence of women of nearby villages.
In the first phase, 46 women will be imparted free training by a trained instructor for six months. The Foundation has provided seven sewing machines, equipment for the training and all related materials.
Following completion of the training programme, the centre aims to produce 5000-6000 pieces of petticoat a month with a team of 15-member production group. The market linkage for the products would be facilitated by JSPL Foundation.
A trained member is expected earn up to Rs 3,000/- a month after successful training. This would help the trained women to contribute to her family earning through tailoring while furnishing her role as a homemaker. The training centre has been established as a part of Women Empowerment programmes under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of JSPL.
On the occasion Shri Suresha G, Unit Head of Barbil plant said the initiative will definitely help the rural women to become financially empowered and contribute to improve their families ‘quality of life’. Their success would inspire other women in the village to become entrepreneurs and generate employment.
To enable rural women generate supplementary income for their families using indigenous resources, JSPL Foundation has been implementing multifaceted sustainable livelihood programme across all its business locations in Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
In Odisha, more than 5000 women are being supported with capacity building as well as forward and backward linkages support to earn sustainable supplementary income on a regular basis.
