Report by Vijyender Sharma, Shimla: Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh today accorded rousing red carpet welcome to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at Jubbalhatti Airport from where the Prime Minister launched the regional air connectivity Scheme, ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik’ (UDAN).
The Prime Minister handed over the green flag to the crew of ‘Alliance Air’ to inaugurate the first flight under UDAN scheme to New Delhi from Shimla. Besides, he also inaugurated through a video link, (on-line) the other flights from Kadappa Airport in Andhra Pradesh and Nanded Airport in Marathwada region, Maharashtra.
The Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister and said that the regional connectivity flights from un-served routes would certainly promote balanced regional growth and make flying affordable for common person and would be less time consuming.
Shri Virbhadra Singh also accompanied the Prime Minister while he laid foundation stone of much awaited Hydro-engineering college at Bilaspur to be set up at a cost of Rs.146 crore. Out of this, a sum of Rs. 76 crore would be contributed by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). He said that the government would explore possibilities to start classes in this fiscal. Initially, two courses of Civil and electrical engineering would be started.
The State Government has provided land for construction of the college at Bandla in Bilaspur district.
Earlier, the Chief Minister honoured the Prime Minister with a Himachali cap and presented him the Kangra miniature painting.
Shri Virbhadra Singh later gave a warm farewell to Narendra Modi at Annandale helipad along-with Transport and Civil Aviation & Technical Education Minster Shri G.S. Bali and Mayor Shri Sanjay Chauhan and senior officers of the State Government.
