Cuttack: The manufacturer of World’s Greenest Cement, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. has been recognized as the lowest carbon footprint cement producer globally with carbon dioxide emission of 342 kg/tonne of cement produced as compared to global average of 616 kg/tonne. (DCBL) today reiterated its commitment to the State of Odisha, especially in Cuttack. Understanding local community needs has been a part of DCBL’s philosophy. Keeping the community’s best interests at heart DCBL focuses on four important aspects. They are Energy conservation, providing skill developing initiatives for theyouth, Soil and water conservation and rural infrastructure. Supporting this philosophy Dalmia Bharat Foundation has been an important force while undertaking the company’s CSR activities. The overall socio-Economic growth has been primarily in the villages of Cuttack and Jajpur districts in the vicinity of Kapilas Cement Works.
KCMW had started their production the year of 2008. Since their inception the focus has been in raising the quality of life for the local community and over 41,000 people have benefited across 52 villages in the region socio economically.Kapilas Cement Works has always believed in skill development and a genuine effort has been made to keep that promise.
Elaborating on the topic Mr. Manoranjan Sahoo, Deputy Executive Director and plant head of Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited’s Kapilas Cement Manufacturing Works stated “Following our Group’s commitment to National Skill Development Corporation to impart skill training to 60,000 youth in 10 years, our CSR team is operating training centres in tailoring, mobile repairing, electrician, automobile and patient care and medical assistance trades, helping the local youth to be skilled and enhance their employability. Even the local women have now expressed their interest for tailoring training, so that they can be economically independent”.
KCMW in terms of healthcare have been using their mobile medicare unit which reaches out to over 58,000 people belonging to Cuttack and Jajpur districts for regular health check-ups and medical advice.
In terms of Sanitation KCMW is working towards making peripheral villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) under its sanitation programs. Recently in association with the Government bodies, the company has built 56 individual toilets for the 56 families living in Biswali village paving path for it to become a model ODF village in the area.
To ensure there is no shortage of water and ensure better water quality in the region, more than 35 ponds have been created in the nearby villages. The KCMW plant is 111% water positive. It uses 100% STP water for various activities. With, Ground water only used for drinking purposes.
The company has played an important role in healthcare, skill employment, and community involving nature preservation practices.In terms of nature preservation KCMW works as an environment crusader in the region. Avenue plantation and Block Plantation undertaken in periphery by planting 31,484 trees. KCMW was actively involved in setting up Organic Gardening, distributing 95,497 plants in periphery villages resulted in successful increase of green cover in the region and adopting environment friendly habits by the people.1.30 lac trees were planted, and a Green Belt was developed over an area of 115 acre in factory and colony premises at KCMW.The DCBL and KCMW continue to grow with the help and support of the local community keeping in mind such initiatives help and support the growth of our nation.
