Bhopal City to get additional potable water from Kolar and Kerwa Dams CS Shri Mohanty issues directives

Bhopal : The Chief Secretary Shri Sudhi Ranjan Mohanty said that that additional water will be supplied from Kolar and Kerwa Dams to ensure pure potable water supply to Bhopal city. He has directed to keep the additional water reserved in these dams. Shri Mohanty was addressing the meeting held at Mantralaya today in connection to the water supply scheme of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation.

Shri Mohanty said that sufficient water is available in the dams owing to the rainfall this year. Therefore, on the demand of Municipal Corporation, Bhopal, the Water Resources Department should ensure reserving immediately the additional 5 MCM water in Kerwa dam and additional 10 MCM water in Kolar dam. The interval of water supply will be decided on the technical basis by the Water Resources Department, Urban Development and Housing Department and Municipal Corporation-Bhopal.

The Divisional Commissioner Bhopal Smt. Kalpana Shrivastava informed that as a result of increase in the boundaries, the area of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation has become 416 from 285 k.m. and the number of wards has increased to 85 from 70. On the basis of anticipated population of 2033, the 120.4 MGD water will be needed. The Commissioner Urban Administration and Development Shri P.Narhari, Collector Bhopal Shri Tarun Pithode as well as officers of the Municipal Corporation Bhopal and Water Resources Department were present at the meeting.
