Basketball Boot Camp – Hoop Fun in Capital City

Bhubaneswar: Keeping in line with the state’s vision to make Odisha a global sports excellence center, a home based Sports Enterprise Surge Sports started of its own initiative of ushering in sports drive among school students in the age group of 8-15 with Basketball Boot Camp – Hoop Fun . The student revelers were amazed by the fun coaching they had with Jr.NBA Coach Mr. Prasanna Venkatesh Rajackmani, Indian Men National Team
Captain Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and Sitamani Tudu of Indian Women National Team. Approximately 200 students from BJEM, Takshila , KIIT , MPS and SAI, DPS Kalinga , participated on the first day in 2 sessions of 3 hours each . The students and parents braved the inclemently rough weather to attend the camp. After the camp most of the parents have urged the organizers to start a Coaching Center to initiate the children into basketball training program.
The coaches were very happy with the exuberance of the youngsters. Surge Sports dedicated the second day to the Government Sports Hostel Boys and girls who brushed shoulders and honed their skills with the iconic invitees. Jr.NBA Coach Venkatesh said that the Sports Hostel students were exceptionally well disciplined and knew their game well and if pushed a little can do wonders. Captain Vishesh played some interesting technical skill set games with the hostel girls and was amazed to see the talents in each one of them. He stated that some of them were ready for the national camp as well.
The program was a huge success due to unconditional support of the Sports & Youth Services Department and the OSG Sr. Coach Rajendra Pani , Coach Rajesh Singh, Coach Smarita Samantray . Stadium in Charge Barij Mohanty completed the work of the basketball court with war footing and the complex was ready for the BOOT Camp. Sr, Basketball Coach and OSD-Kalinga Stadium Pani said that such well arranged fun camps would bolster the growth of Basketball in Odisha.
Surge Sports elaborated its plan of holding more such boot camps in other disciplines as well. Its upcoming boot camps are Snooker with Yasin Merchant on Nov 16th & 17th and Tennis with Somdev Burman on Jan 4th & 5th 2020 . They have planned similar boot camps in soccer , badminton, swimming also with iconic stars enthralling the young participants.CEO of Surge Sports , Amrita Mohapatra , former India No 2 in Billiards quipped that these boot camps are aimed at creating interest of both parents and children towards sports and create awareness to visualize sports as a professional career. She also informed that they would be starting structured school sports from the next academic sessions, where the primary stakeholders would be schools themselves.

Surge Sports is also representing WFI and BSFI in Odisha for their proposed international events. Surge Sports informed that they have prepared a brouhaha of sporting events for which the discussions with the Sports & Youth Services Deptt are at various stages. Hony. Secretary of Odisha Basketball Association said that the efforts were commendable and its encouraging to see private participation in area of sports at grass root level.
