Bhubaneswar :As part of its women empowerment initiative, Aditya Birla Group company Aditya Aluminium organised a training programme for the leaders of women self help groups (SHGs), in a bid to develop their leadership skill.
As many as 30 leaders of 15 women SHGs participated in the two-day programmes, organised by Aditya Aluminium under its CSR initiative on February 24-25. Resource person Sudhir Dash, who has been imparting training to SHGs across Odisha since last 17 years, trained the women.
With proper handholding, these SHG members who act as ‘Change Agents’ in the community and work on various social issues, can become successful entrepreneurs and contribute in financial stability of their families besides providing livelihood opportunity to unemployed youths, believed the Company.
The training session started with SHG Vandana and the participants introduced themselves which was part of the confidence-building measure. Various activities, exercises and group discussions were organised during the training period to keep each participant engaged and involved.
Aditya Aluminium CSR team facilitated the training programme under the able leadership of Head (HR) Vivekanand Mishra and Cluster CSR Head A Satyanarayana.
SHGs are the most common Community Based Organizations (CBOs) found in every village and are used extensively as tool for women empowerment. Aditya Aluminium is supporting more than 70 SHGs in 15 villages. These SHGs have 10-15 women members and are formed by either Integrated Child Development Department, Civil Society Organisations working in the area or a Corporate. These SHGs have President, Secretary and Treasurer as their leaders who convene meeting, initiate inter-loan facilities, maintain records, initiate financial inclusion and leverage government welfare schemes. As most of these rural women possess little education, it’s important to provide them training on various aspects of leadership, group management and income generation activities.
