Reliance Jio tops in 4G download speed in January, Idea in upload: TRAI

New Delhi: Continuing its leadership, Reliance Jio has topped the average 4G download speed chart published by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for January 2019. As per the report, Jio achieved 18.8 Mbps average download speed in the month, witnessing an improvement from 18.7 Mbps in December 2018.

It is worth mentioning here that Reliance Jio was the fastest 4G service provider throughout the year 2018 with highest average download speed in all 12 months.

Among other operators the average 4G download speed of Bharti Airtel was 9.5 Mbps followed by 6.7 Mbps of Vodafone and 5.5 Mbps of Idea, in the month of January.

Idea continued to lead the average 4G upload speed chart with a speed of 5.8 Mbps in January followed by Vodafone and Jio network which registered marginal improvement in average 4G upload speed at 5.4 Mbps and 4.4 Mbps respectively in this month. However, Airtel marginally declined in upload speed to 3.8 mbps in January.

The download speed plays an important role when a user watches any video, browse the internet, access e-mails; and a good upload speed is required when a user wants to share data such as images, videos and any other files through e-mail or social media applications.

The average speed is computed by TRAI based on data it collects with help of its MySpeed application on a real-time basis.
