Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: Huge effigies of Ravan in at least three major places in Jagatsinghpur district were torched in the eve of Ravana Podi on Saturday, the locations namely Erasama, Paradip and Jagatsinghpur where the Ravana Podi celebration held with gusto.
In district headquarters local Sriram club hosted the celebration in collector office parade ground here where ADM Sachidananda Sahoo lit fire in the Ravana effigy, club president Bishnu Charana Mohanty coordinated the celebration with support of local Puja Pandals representatives. This year Sriram club had organized song drama on Ravana and Lord Ram from Ramayan which had drawn huge public attraction.
In Erasama headquarters the Ravana Podi celebration was held at Anchalika Yuba Parishad ground where state culture minister Ashok Panda attended as chief guest accompanying Balikuda- Erasama MLA Prashant Muduli. MP Anubhaba Mohanty , Zilla Parishad president, local PR representatives.
The district administration and police had put in trouble as for celebrating Ravana Podi two organizations had applied for the permission from civil administration. The organization backed by MLA Prasanta Muduli got permission for the celebration at Erasama headquarter, on the other hand Paradip MLA Damodara Rout supported group denied permission due to delay filing of application for obtaining administration approval. Notable Damodar Rout each year participates in the Erasama Ravana Podi celebration lit fire on the Ravana effigy.
The major Ravana Podi celebration was held in Para dip port town organized by Sagar club, the observance held in Para dip off shore attended by thousands of revelers. Para dip MLA Damodar Rout attended the event as chief guest and lit fire on the Ravan effigy. Former municipality chairman Kishori Parida chaired the meeting accompanied by few supporters of Dama Babu.
Ravana Podi according to Hindu mythology is said to be a marking the triumph of good over evil hat gets lively during Durga Puja in order to add grandeur to Puja revelry, said few Ravana Podi organisers.
