Odisha: Illegal quarry- Two workers killed in a cave in incident

 

Report by Akshya Rout; JAJPUR- Two workers were killed and one  sustained injuries  in a cave-in on  Sunday  in an illegal quarry in village Arua    under Dharmasala police station  of  Jajpur district.

A large portion of the hillock caved in on some of the workers   while they were doing illegal quarry works .  Some villagers retrieved both the bodies , said  Ranjan Das the collector of Jajpur.

Both the deceased  workers  have been identified as Strughan Samal( 46)  of Arua  and Kulamani Samal( 56) of  Khajuria village.  We will take necessary actions against the persons who illegally engaged deceased workers and others in the illegal quarry work,   added the collector.

Dharmasala MLA Pranab balabantaray and Senior officials including the collector rushed to the spot on  Sunday  after this incident. Around two hundred villagers including many women gherored the officials and demanded immediate arrest of the contractor.

It may be recalled, that  nine years ago 14 quarry workers had been killed in a cave-in in an illegal quarry at village Rangeitangala under Nijigard Gram Panchayat in Sukinda block of Jajpur district.
