BIPF honours agents of social change at its 6th Annual Shambhavi Puraskar award ceremony in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The 6th Shambhavi Puraskar award ceremony Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF) was held at The Crown Hotel, Bhubaneswar on March 19, 2019 by BIPF. The prestigious Shambhavi Puraskar which was instituted by BIPF in 2014 is bestowed on social change agents who serve society altruistically.

‘Shambhavi Puraskar 2019’ was conferred upon Mr. Dinabandhu Maharana by the Chief Guest, Mr. Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Member, NITI Aayog; and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Abasar Beuria, IFS (Retd.), Former Ambassador. Mr. Maharana was chosen for his outstanding contribution in developing the public infrastructure in the tribal areas of Kandhamal District through his organization ‘Kandhamal Zilla Sabuja Vaidya Sangathan’ (KZSVS). So far, this initiative has covered 405 villages in Daringibadi, K. Nuagaon, and Kotgarh Blocks of the Kandhamal District.

Apart from the Shambhavi Puraskar award, BIPF also recognizes those individuals who stand out as an example of humanity and are the pillars of strength to the community. This year, BIPF conferred the ‘Jury Commendation Certificate 2019’ upon Mr. Abhimanyu Das for his dedication and selfless service towards the people of Cuttack. A book-binder by profession, he provides counselling to those who are disadvantaged and less privileged. He also performs the arduous task of cremating the deceased who are either unidentified or unclaimed, giving these individuals dignity in death.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Debroy said, “The Shambhavi Puraskar awards is an inspirational platform, encouraging those working at the grassroot level to bring about a positive change in the lives of people. I would like to congratulate both Mr. Maharana and Mr. Das for the exemplary work they have done for the people of their respective districts.” Mr. Beuria congratulating the BIPF team, said, “BIPF’s work in some of Odisha’s tribal areas is commendable. BIPF is encouraging people who are going above and beyond the call of duty to support their communities through some exceptional work. I wish Mr. Maharana, Mr. Das good luck for their future endeavours.”

Ms. Shaifalika Panda, CEO, BIPF, said, “It is a great honour for us at BIPF to acknowledge through the Shambavi Puraskar the work done by socially conscious stalwarts such as Mr. Maharana and Mr. Das. We applaud them not only for the selfless work they have done for the community but also for serving as role models to the next generation.”

Shambhavi Puraskar carries a citation and cash award of Rs. 2,50,000/-. The Jury Commendation certification carries a citation and a cash award for Rs 50,000/-. The function was attended by a large number of representatives from various sectors including NGO’s, social workers, Govt. officials, and corporate houses.
