Lanjigarh: Vedanta Limited, Aluminium and Power Business’ Lanjigarh alumina refinery observed National Energy Conservation Day by organising Earth Hour in its plant premises and township. An ‘Energy Walk’ was also organised to create and raise awareness on efficient energy management systems and practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Mohan, Chief Operating Officer – Vedanta, Lanjigarh unit said, “Vedanta has enabled sustainable practices in its operations with the highest energy-efficient standards. We believe our efforts will help us create a sustainable future for our community and environment. Our efforts have helped create a global benchmark for a coal-fired refinery in achieving the lowest greenhouse gas emissions in Lanjigarh.”
The campaign kicked off with an ‘Energy Walk’ within plant premises in presence of over 500 senior management officials, associate partners and employees. The inaugural ceremony began with the collective oath from associate partners and employees to bring a cultural change by spreading awareness on energy saving. As part of the campaign, the unit will also be organizing week-long activities including quiz, extempore, drawing and slogan writing competition on the theme ‘Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation’, sessions on energy saving ideas on topics like ‘Energy Conservation in Industry’. Awareness sessions will be conducted for associate partners, several schools in the community as well as the employees.
The company has deployed several advanced energy efficiency projects aimed at reducing Specific Energy Consumption (SEC). These include use of renewable energy resources such as solar panels to generate electricity and conversion of waste material into fuel through the biogas plant. It is noteworthy that Vedanta’s Lanjigarh alumina refinery recently won the Excellence Energy Efficiency award 2019 for its energy-efficiency and management practices.
