Lanjigarh: In the aftermath of the heavy monsoon and recent devastating floods in the region, Vedanta Limited Lanjigarh has paced up its social work in the area of community health and hygiene through awareness camps and free medical aid to the people in need. On Tuesday, a medical team from Vedanta Hospital organised a health camp and awareness sessions in two of the remote villages, Karkamaska in Bandhpari panchayat and Leptaguda in Chhatrapur panchayat in Kalahandi district. These efforts were directed at treating and preventing the outbreak of malaria, scabies, dysentery and other water-borne diseases in the locality. The challenge of reaching out to the local communities was immense as there is hardly any transportation infrastructure leading to these villages. A seven-member team carried medical equipment and supplies on foot to these villages which are 5-6 kms away from the main town. The team was able to reach out to 152 villagers in these places to offer free medical help and disseminate necessary information about prevention of rampant diseases in the area.
Last week, the company health team visited Litibundel village and treated 142 patients for which they had to walk down more than 6 km to reach to the villages.
In the health camp present were Dr. Goutam Jena, Srimukh Agasthi, Dasarath Majhi, Basudev Majhi, Atanu Mahapatra, Jagannath Bag and Sudam Mahakud. Ward members of both the villages supported the cause and thanked the company for its effort.
